Bougher Controls RailCats in 4-1 Win of Saltdogs

Lincoln, NE - The RailCats dropped the second game of their six-game road trip on Saturday night with a 4-1 loss to the Lincoln Saltdogs. Gary SouthShore is now 46-33 for the year, Lincoln improved to 43-37 with the victory.

Stephen Bougher controlled the ballgame for his entire start. In eight innings the right-hander allowed just one run on four hits and one walk. He struck out four as he picked up his third win of the season.

The Saltdogs grabbed the first runs of the game in the third; scoring three times against starter Billy Spottiswood. With one out, Ian Gac singled to load the bases and bring Brian Joynt to the plate. Joynt pulled a ground ball to first that glanced off the bag and into right field to score a pair. Matt Forgatch reached on a fielder's choice to score Gac from third and take a 3-0 lead for Lincoln after three innings.

The RailCats offense was kept quiet through the middle by Stephen Bougher who retired 12 in a row between the third and seventh inning. Bougher allowed a first inning single to Mike Massaro and didn't allow another hit until Reid Fronk's two-out single in the seventh.

Billy Spottiswood delivered six innings for his fifth straight quality start. In six innings he allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits and one walk. Billy struck out four and suffered his second loss of the season.

In the seventh against reliever Taylor Sewitt, Ian Gac hit his 15th home run off the season to make it 4-0.

The RailCats finally broke through against Bougher in the eighth with a one-out double by Zac Mitchell. Nick Liles followed with a ground ball base hit through the middle to get the 'Cats on the board.

RJ Rodriguez finished off the game with a scoreless ninth inning. The RailCats only offense came on an error by David Espinosa to allow Craig Maddox to reach.

Adam Klein's 33 game on-base streak came to an end with an 0-for-4 night. It was the second longest streak of the season in the American Association.

The RailCats and Saltdogs complete their three-game set on Sunday night, LHP Alain Quijano (10-5, 3.80 ERA) will take the ball for Gary SouthShore and RHP Pete Parise (9-5, 3.65 ERA). Listen live on 89.1 FM The LakeShore and RailCatsBaseball.com beginning at 5:00 p.m.
