RailCats Add to Bullpen

LINCOLN, NE - The Gary SouthShore RailCats added left-hander Matt Jurnstad to the bullpen mix prior to Saturday night's game with Lincoln. Closer Marco Gonzalez was placed on the disabled list retroactive to August 5th, to make room on the roster.

Jurnstad has pitched parts of the last five seasons as a member of the Windy City Thunderbolts and he was acquired for a player to be named later. His best season came in 2011 when he appeared in 24 games and made 21 starts for Windy City. He went 8-11 with a 3.71 ERA in 140 and 2/3 innings he struck out 116 and saved one game.

In 2010, Jurnstad was signed by the New York Yankees and pitched with their New York-Penn League affiliate in Staten Island. With the SI Yanks, he appeared in 14 games and made three starts, going 2-2 with a 3.32 ERA in 43 and a 1/3 innings.

Marco Gonzalez last appeared for the RailCats on Sunday August 4th in the ninth inning of the RailCats 7-3 victory over St. Paul. Gonzalez is in the midst of one of his best seasons as a professional, this season he is 0-3 with a 1.89 ERA and 8 saves.

Gonzalez had 12 straight scoreless appearances prior to being placed on the disabled list; he last allowed a run on July 6th at Winnipeg.
