Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Salt Lake Bees opened their home slate Wednesday night with a doubleheader against the Las Vegas Aviators, dropping both games.

In game one, the Aviators struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the second on a RBI single from Drew Jackson. Monte Harrison knocked in Dillon Thomas in the bottom half of the inning for the first Salt Lake run of the game. The score remained 2-1 in favor of Las Vegas until the top of the seventh inning when the visiting team put up two more runs, highlighted by a solo home run from Mickey McDonald.

The Bees strung together a couple of hits in the bottom of the inning, as Michael Stefanic knocked in Magneuris Sierra to cut the Las Vegas lead to two. They would not successfully complete the comeback, however, dropping game one by a score of 4-2. Janson Junk started the game on the mound for the Bees, throwing 4.2 innings and striking out three batters, but would take home his first loss of the season.

The Bees' offense did not warm up for game two as they scored just one run on five hits. Kean Wong went 2-for-3 and Chad Wallach scored the only run in the seventh inning, coming home on a Las Vegas error. The Aviators scored first once again, putting up two runs in the first inning and adding another in the fifth.

Ryan Smith started game two on the mound for the Bees, pitching 4.2 innings, giving up one earned run and striking out four batters. Ryan Kalish worked 2.1 scoreless innings of relief work, allowing just two hits.

The Bees and the Aviators will be back in action tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. at Smith's Ballpark.
