Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

(SUGAR LAND, Texas) - Behind a strong outing from left-hander Jonathan Bermudez and a home run for Alex McKenna, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys picked up their first-ever win at Constellation Field, defeating the Round Rock Express, 2-1, on Wednesday night.

McKenna's home run, which was his first career Triple A home run, put the Space Cowboys out in front in the fifth inning. Bermudez allowed just one run while striking out five batters through six innings in his second start of the year. Bermudez, who's the reigning Houston Astros Minor League Pitcher of the Year, has recorded a 0.87 ERA (10.1 IP/1 ER) so far this season.

Round Rock scored its only run of the night on a solo homer from Davis Wendzel in the second. Michael Papierski tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth on an RBI ground out to score David Hensley, who went 3-for-3 with a walk. Hensley has hit safely in five straight games, hitting .474 (9x19) with a triple, home run and five RBI during that time.

Zac Rosscup, Enoli Paredes and Josh James each tossed one inning of scoreless relief to finish out the win. James picked up his second save of the year.

Six of the Space Cowboys' first eight games have been decided by one run.

Brandon Bielak is scheduled to make his first start of the season for the Space Cowboys at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, with Round Rock set to start Cole Winn.
