Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Albuquerque, NM - The Tacoma Rainiers (3-5) dropped to 2-1 in one-run ballgames on Wednesday night in Albuquerque, as the host Isotopes (2-6) evened the series by hanging on for a 7-6 final. The Rainiers nearly rallied from a five-plus run deficit for a consecutive night to begin the road trip, before falling just short.

Albuquerque struck first in the first, when Ryan Vilade began the game with a double, later scoring on an Elehuris Montero sac fly. It was 5-0 Isotopes after two innings; a four-hit, four-run second frame with a walk featured a Wynton Bernard RBI double and an RBI single by Vilade as ABQ sent all nine batters to the plate.

Tacoma tacked on two runs in the third, after Erick Mejia led off with a double down the left field line, and scored a batter later on Joe Odom's first home run of the year, to the alley in left. Albuquerque quickly restored the lead to five runs in the third, with three consecutive two-out hits, including a Bernard two-run triple, giving the ABQ centerfielder a three-RBI night.

The Rainiers' third run was on a Marcus Wilson RBI double in the fourth. The Rs kept chipping away in the sixth, when Zach Green led off with an opposite field solo shot, his first homer of the year. The Mike Ford (3-for-4, 3 R) single that followed eventually scored after a walk and a pair of fielders choice, tightening the score to 7-5.

With that same score in the eighth, Ford led off with his third hit and scored following Kevin Padlo's second walk and an error, making it a one-run affair. Despite two scoreless innings apiece by LHP Roenis Elias (1 H, 0 BB, 1 K) and RHP Wyatt Mills (0 H, 0 BB, 1 K) out of the Tacoma bullpen, the rally ended in the visiting ninth when the potential tying run was stranded at third to end it.

Albuquerque's Dillon Overton (1-1) went the requisite 5.0 IP for the winning decision: 5 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 9 K.

Game three of the first Rainiers road trip of the year will be Thursday night in Albuquerque, a 5:35 PT first pitch. Seattle Mariners 40-man roster LHP Nick Margevicius is lined up for Tacoma, against RHP Matt Dennis of the Isotopes.
