
Salt Lake Bees Grounds Crew Honored with 2018 PCL Sports Turf Management Presidential Commendation

SALT LAKE CITY - Salt Lake Bees head groundskeeper Brian Soukup and the Bees grounds crew of Paul Sheffield, Jeremy Langlois, Kevin Asay, Dan Burkhart and Eric Mcleod were awarded a 2018 Sports Turf Management Presidential Commendation for their work on the playing surface at Smith's Ballpark. The announcement was made today by Pacific Coast League President Branch B. Rickey.
The Bees grounds crew has been awarded a Presidential Commendation in three of the last four seasons having been honored in 2015, 2016 and 2018.
The Bees grounds crew is responsible for the playing surface for 100 baseball games at Smith's Ballpark in 2018. During the season Smith's Ballpark will have hosted 70 Bees home games, over 20 University of Utah home baseball games and another five high school games as well as the Opening Ceremonies for the 2018 Transplant Games.
Voting for the award was conducted by the 16 field managers and PCL on-field officials; it is based on 11 different categories, from the field setup for batting practice to the overall playing surface during game day.
El Paso's Travis Howard was elected as the Pacific Coast League's Sports Turf Manager of the Year while Soukup, Albuquerque's Clint Belau and Round Rock's Nick Rozdilski were each honored with the Presidential Commendation.
The Bees return to the green grass at Smith's Ballpark for the final homestand of 2018 on Tuesday, Aug. 28 for seven games with the final game of the season coming on Monday, Sept. 3. Tickets are still available for all seven games at www.slbees.com.
