Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - G Julien Ellis made 52 saves to backstop the Victoria Salmon Kings to a 5-3 win over the Bakersfield Condors in front of 3,861 fans at Rabobank Arena Wednesday night.
Victoria (37-26-7, 81pts) took the lead in the fast-moving opening frame. RW Brady Leavold flipped a backhander home over Condors G Yutaka Fukufuji from the side of the net to make it 1-0 at 7:16. Just 1:22 later, however, the Condors tied it up. F Brett Pilkington netted his 10th of the season at 8:38 to make it 1-1. Bakersfield (30-31-7, 67pts) held the lead in shots, 13-7 in the frame.
In the second period, the Salmon Kings erupted for three goals in the first 6:05 of the frame. LW Daryl Lloyd, RW Sean O'Connor and RW Olivier Labelle all lit the lamp to give Victoria a commanding 4-1 lead. Bakersfield kept pushing back, though, pounding Ellis with 22 second period shots and cutting into the lead with a power play tally by C Dave Bonk, for his 29th of the season at 16:19.
The Condors battled in the third, but could get no closer. An additional 20 shots found the Victoria netminder, for a season-high 55 shots on goal, but the Salmon Kings extended the lead with just under four minutes remaining. Lloyd knocked in his second of the night to make it 5-2 at 16:07 to put the game out of reach. A final Condors goal by C Bruce Graham with just 15 seconds left accounted for the final margin.
