Jackals vs. Nailers Triple Header Preview

Elmira, NY- With only five games remaining the 2008-2009 regular season the Elmira Jackals and Wheeling Nailers enter the biggest series of the season. With only one point separating the two clubs in the North Division standings and only two points separating first place to fifth place, this weekends six points are colossal. The Jackals have the home ice advantage for all five remaining games.

The triple header opens up on Friday, March 27th at 7:35 p.m. Get set number two of the Multi Media Services and Weiss Construction Jackals Trading Cards. On Saturday night the face off is again set for 7:35 p.m. get the third and final set of the Multi Media Services and Weiss Construction Jackals Trading Cards. (35-25-2-5) Elmira Jackals vs. (34-24-2-6) Wheeling Nailers

Division Standings: Could the North Division be any closer? Only four teams will enter the post season from the American North, five teams are in the running being separated by only two points. Cincinnati leads with 79 points followed by Elmira's 77. Wheeling, Johnstown and Trenton are all tied for third place with 76.

Season Series: These hockey clubs have played a close season series with the Jackals owning a three wins and three loss record against the Nailers. The last time these two teams met up was back on February 7th in Wheeling at the WesBanco Arena. The Jackals edged the Nailers 3-2 with Pierre-Luc Faubert's' shoot out game winner.

Royally Stunned: Both hockey teams enter the weekend with recent losses to the last place Reading Royals. The Jackals fell 4-1 in Reading on Wednesday night while the Nailers fell 5-4 in overtime on home ice to the Royals last Saturday.

Playoff Push: The Jackals enter the weekend after going 5-3-1-1 in their past ten games while the Nailers have compiled a 6-3-0-1 mark in their last ten. Elmira holds a 16-10-1-4 home record compared to the Nailers 15-14-1-2 road record.

Who Are These Guys: The new additions of Colton Yellow Horn, Brendan Connolly and Bear Trapp have paid off for the Jackals. Trapp has skated in three games netting two goals and adding an assists for three points. Connolly has played in seven games for the Jackals where he has netted three goals and added five assists for eight points. The third piece to the Jackals hottest line combo is Colton Yellow Horn who has netted three goals and added six assists for nine points in 19 games.

Top Dogs: The Jackals scoring chase is lead by Steve Yetman who has played in 59 games netting 25 goals and adding 26 assists for 51 points. Forward Pierre-Luc Faubert has also racked up 51 points, to the tune of 21 goals and 30 assists in 65 games. Paul McIlveen rounds out the top three with 48 points (18 g 30 a) in 59 games played.

Super Saver: Elmira net minder Michael Teslak has gone 2-1-1-1 with a 0.922 save percentage and a 2.56 goals against average in his past five games. On the season Teslak has compiled a 13-9-1-3 record with a 2.84 goals against average and a 0.906 save percentage.
