Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Bakersfield, CA - In a Wednesday evening matchup, the Victoria Salmon Kings and Bakersfield Condors met for the first two of meetings this week in California. Goaltender Julien Ellis started in net for the Salmon Kings, while the Condorsr countered with Yutaka Fukufuji.
The Salmon Kings opened the scoring when Brady Leavold was behind the Condors night and faked coming out the left side and reversed direction. Fukufuji bit on the fake allowing Leavold to come out the right side and lift a backhand into the back of the net. The condors tied it up at 1-1 when Bret Pilkington found a puck in the slot area. He spun around and buried it in behind Ellis. The teams would be tied 1-1 through one period.
Victoria came out on fire to start the second. Chris St. Jacques started the scoring when he picked up a shot of the end wall and tried to stuff it past Fukufuji. The Condors' goalie scrambled to make the first save, but Darryl Lloyd punched the puck in for the 2-1 lead. The Salmon Kings made it 3-1 moments later when Sean O'Connor would tally a power play marker. Olivier Labelle would extend the lead to 4-1 when he tipped in a Dylan Yeo point shot. The Condors would cut into the lead with a power play marker when Dave bonk found a loose puck in the slot area and fired it into the Kings' net.
Lloyd made it a 5-2 game when he tipped in a beautiful pass from Labelle past Fukufuji. Bruce Graham would add a late goal for the Condors. Salmon Kings 5 Condors 3.
Victoria finished 1-5=20% on the power play, while Bakersfield ended 1-5=20%. The Condors outshot the Salmon Kings 55-23.
