Saints Slam Way to Nine-Run Seventh in 10-6 Comeback Victory Over Storm Chasers

ST. PAUL, MN - The St. Paul Saints didn't show any punch for the first six innings on Sunday evening at CHS Field. Down 6-1 in the seventh, they completely flipped the momentum with their second highest scoring inning in franchise history, a nine-run outburst highlighted by a grand slam, in their largest comeback victory on the season a 10-6 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers. The win improves the Saints to 27-22 on the season.

Down by five in the seventh, the Saints turned the game around as the first three batters reached to load the bases. Chris Williams led off the inning with a walk, Hernán Pérez singled, and Ryan LaMarre walked. Jair Camargo got the Saints to within one with a grand slam to left, his second career grand slam and fifth home run of the season, cutting the deficit to 6-5. Camargo finished the night 2-4 with a grand slam, four RBI, and two runs scored. Tony Wolters was then hit by a pitch and Alex De Goti sacrificed him to second. Andrew Stevenson tied the game with an RBI double to right-center. Jose Miranda followed with a single to left. Stevenson was held at third until left fielder Brewer Hicklen fell and Stevenson attempted to score. Hicklen fired a strike up the third base line, but the catcher Jakson Reetz dropped the ball allowing Stevenson to score and sending Miranda to second as the Saints took a 7-6 lead. With two outs, Williams walked for a second time in the inning and Pérez unloaded on a three-run homer to left, his fourth of the season, finishing off the 10-6 win.

The Storm Chasers put up a crooked number of their own in the third as they sent nine men to the plate. A leadoff walk to Johan Camargo was followed by a single to right-center by Reetz putting runners at first and second. Clay Dungan's RBI single put the Storm Chasers up 1-0. With one out, Nate Eaton made it 2-0 with an RBI single to left. Tyle Gentry loaded the bases with an infield single to short. Nick Loftin followed with a two-run single increasing the lead to 4-1.

The Saints got one back in the bottom of the inning. Camargo started the inning with an infield single to third. With one out, De Goti singled to left putting runners at first and second. Stevenson extended his hitting streak to 16-games with an RBI single to center making it 4-1.

In the fifth, the Storm Chasers used some speed to score their runs. Samad Taylor led off with a double, stole third, and scored on a throwing error by the catcher Tony Wolters making it 5-1. Eaton then singled to left, stole second, and scored three batters later on a single by CJ Alexander increasing the lead to 6-1.

It wasn't enough though, as the Saints had their largest comeback win of the season. It was the second time this season the Saints have scored 10 or more runs in back-to-back games, coming on the heels of a 14-run performance last night.

The Saints also turned four double plays for the second consecutive game. It's the first time they've accomplished that feat and only the third time in franchise history they have turned four double plays.

The Saints are off on Monday and are back in action on Tuesday night at Sahlen field in game one of a six-game series against the Buffalo Bisons at 5:05 p.m. (CT). The Saints send Major League rehabber Kenta Maeda (NR) to the mound against Bisons RHP Casey Lawrence (1-3, 5.29). The game can be heard on KFAN Plus, 96.7 FM.
