The Bisons have announced that Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin will throw the ceremonial first pitch prior to the team's Superhero Night game on Saturday, August 11. Dahlin will take the mound just prior to the team's scheduled 6:05 p.m. game against the Toledo Mud Hens.
Dahlin, the first overall selection in this past June's NHL entry draft, is universally regarded is the top prospect entering the league. He is just the second Swedish-born player to ever be selected first overall in the NHL Draft (Mats Sundin) after scoring seven goals and 13 assist as an 18-year old for Frolunda HC of the Swedish Hockey League. He was named the 'Top Defenseman' in the 2018 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships played here in Buffalo and also represented Sweden in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, where he was the youngest men's hockey player in the tournament.
Dahlin's appearance at Coca-Cola Field means the top prospect in both hockey and baseball will be at the ballpark at the same time. Bisons third baseman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who is just 19 years old and has homered in each of his last three games, is regarded as Major League Baseball's top prospect.
Saturday's Bisons game against the Mud Hens is the team's annual Superhero Night, presented by Niagara County Community College (MORE INFO). Fans with tickets will be allowed into the ballpark as early as 3:00 p.m. today to watch the Bisons take batting practice. Over 50 characters from the Superhero Alliance of WNY will be available to meet and get photos taken with and there will also be an amazing postgame onfield battle and fireworks display.
