Louisville Bats News Release
BATS GO FOR THE SERIES WIN: The Louisville Bats go for the series win tonight against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs after winning Friday night's opener by a 5-3 score. Gabriel Guerrero blasted his team-leading 15th home run in the win, while right-hander Lucas Sims tossed a quality start in his first home start as a Louisville Bat. With a win tonight or tomorrow, Louisville would have its sixth series victory in its last eight series.
AGAINST LEHIGH VALLEY: The IronPigs come to Louisville Slugger Field for a three-game series, the final home series against a non-divisional opponent for the Bats in 2018. Lehigh Valley is also the final International League club to pass through Louisville this season. During the teams' first matchup this season in early April, Lehigh Valley won 3 of 4 games during Louisville's first road series of the season. The Bats won the most recent matchup, however, winning 5-4 in 10 innings on April 15 in LOU's first extra innings game under the new IL rules.
WARMING BACK UP: Since falling to a season-high 20 games below the .500 mark (35-55) on July 16, the Bats are 17-7 in their last 24 games, despite dropping 4 of their last 6. The 24-game stretch was started by a 9-game winning streak from July 17-25, the club's longest win streak since the 2010 season.
SENIOR CIRCUIT: Louisville played in its first game against a National League affiliated team at home last night since July 3 against the Indianapolis Indians. The Bats own a winning percentage against the NL-affiliated clubs this season, with a 15-12 (.556) record. The Bats are just 37-50 (.463) against AL-affiliated clubs this season.
QUALITY ASSURANCE: Bats starting pitchers have tossed 3 quality starts in a row, with LHP Cody Reed , RHP Tyler Mahle and RHP Lucas Sims all tossing exactly 6.0 innings, respectively, with the Bats going 2-1 in those games. Mahle became the 10th different Louisville pitcher to toss a quality start this season, while Sims became the 11th last night. Last season, 12 different pitchers threw a quality start for Louisville, with the Bats going 20-26 in the 46 total quality starts. This season, the Bats are 31-10 in the team's 41 quality starts.
LET ME BLOW YA MIND: Louisville first baseman/outfielder Brian O'Grady went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in last night's win. It was his first 3-hit game in a Louisville uniform. Through 19 games at the Triple-A level, O'Grady is batting .297 (19-for-64) with 14 runs, 2 doubles, one triple, 4 home runs, 14 RBI and 2 stolen bases.
GUERRERO HOMERING IS NOT SO RARE-O: Right fielder Gabriel Guerrero hit his 15th home run of the season for Louisville last night, breaking a tie with D.J. Peterson for most on the team this season. In 109 games between Class AA Pensacola and Louisville this season, Guerrero has hit 17 home runs, one homer shy of his career-high 18 homers he hit in 2014, all with Class-A Advanced High Desert in the Seattle Mariners organization.
T50MP: Catcher Chadwick Tromp made his 50th start for the Bats last night, all at catcher. Last season, Chad Wallach led Louisville catchers in starts, making 56 starts. The Bats are 24-26 when Tromp starts this season.
