Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Austin Meadows launched his second home run of the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, sending the Durham Bulls to a 10-9 walk off victory over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in front of 10,318 fans at the DBAP Saturday night.
The Bulls (65-50) had their 8-4 lead erased in the top of the ninth inning on a Ryan McBroom three-run home run, giving the RailRiders a 9-8 lead heading to the home half of the final frame. Micah Johnson doubled to lead off the bottom of the inning and moved to third on a sac bunt from Kean Wong. Following a strikeout of Andrew Velazquez, with Meadows down to his final strike, he drilled his second two-run home run of the night to give the Bulls a 10-9 win.
McBroom began the RailRiders comeback from a 4-1 deficit in the fourth with a leadoff double and scored on a double by Mark Ford. Ford would later score on a double play by Giovanny Urshela. The Bulls responded in the home half of the frame with three runs on four hits, including a fielder's choice off the bat of Nate Lowe and a Meadows double to left field extending their lead to 7-3.
The Bulls built that lead against RailRiders starter Chance Adams. Adams gave up seven runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and four walks over 3.1 innings. The home team added one run in the top of the seventh on an RBI triple by Johnson after Nick Ciuffo led off the frame with a double staking to an 8-4 advantage.
The bullpen could not hold the lead though, as three pitchers combined to surrender six runs on six hits with seven strikeouts over the final four innings.
Meadows finished 4-for-6 with two home runs and three RBI, Velazquez had two hits and two runs scored, and Refsnyder drove in one run on two hits. Meadows has a hit in seven of his nine games played since joining Durham on August 3.
Andrew Kittredge (W, 6-0) allowed the RailRiders to move in front in the ninth, surrendering the two-run shot to McBroom, but benefitted from the power surge of Meadows to earn his sixth win of the season.
The Bulls face the RailRiders for the finale of a three-game series Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Mike King (0-0, 1.29) is scheduled to start for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and the starter for Durham is yet to be announced.
