THIS DAY IN RED WINGS HISTORY

1999 - The Red Wings batted around and scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat the Lynx 9-6 in Ottawa. The rally featured DH Julio Vinas hitting his team leading seventeenth home run of the season. The win snapped a five game losing streak for Rochester.

2005 - Scott Barker's grand slam highlighted a six-run fourth inning as Syracuse doubled up Rochester 10-5 on Thursday night at Alliance Bank Stadium. Chris Heintz had two doubles, extending his hitting streak to 17 games. With Buffalo's win over Ottawa Thursday afternoon, the Wings slipped back to two games out of first place in the International League North Division. Heintz's streak is a season-high streak for the team is now the fifth longest by a Wing since 1993.

THIS DAY IN INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE HISTORY

1998 - After winning eight straight games to pull to the front of a tight IL North race, the Syracuse SkyChiefs begin a shocking plummet on August 11. On this night Syracuse drops a 6-4 decision at home to the Buffalo Bisons. Jason Grimsley gets the win and Torey Lovullo clubs a two-run homer for the victorious Bisons. It turns out to be the first of eleven consecutive defeats for the SkyChiefs, and Buffalo is ready to take full advantage of Syracuse's August slump. When the regular season concluded September 7, the SkyChiefs had blown their 8.0 game lead of a month earlier. Buffalo (81-62) won the IL North, while Syracuse (80-62) had to settle for the Wild Card. As a result, Buffalo enjoyed home field advantage for the first round series against the SkyChiefs, ultimately sweeping Syracuse. The Bisons went on to beat Durham to win the 1998 Governors' Cup Championship.
