Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Phillies announced Tuesday that first baseman Ryan Howard could begin a rehab assignment with the BlueClaws on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Park.
Howard will return to Philadelphia on Wednesday for "functional testing on his left Achilles." If Howard passes those tests, he will begin a rehab assignment with the BlueClaws Thursday.
Howard played with Lakewood in 2002 and rehabbed at FirstEnergy Park in 2007 and in 2010, with the team retiring his #29 during his 2010 appearance in Lakewood.
The BlueClaws are home through Tuesday night and tickets are available by calling 732-901-7000 option 2 or online by clicking here xxGwE3iLNQxxbPMTSk0xk_pprjpKsljEGY8FBX9v-F-2WPUkbXm6Y=]. Games this weekend could sell-out and fans are encouraged to order their tickets in advance to avoid getting shut out.
"We're very excited to hopefully bring Ryan back to Lakewood," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "It's always a treat for our fans to see a big leaguer back with the BlueClaws and especially so here with one of our greatest former players."
On Thursday, the BlueClaws will be wearing special jerseys for Prostate Cancer Awareness Night. The jerseys are modeled after the road uniforms worn by the Phillies from 1976 - 1991. The jerseys will be auctioned off live after the game with proceeds benefiting BlueClaws Charities. Thursday is also a 66MVP Thirsty Thursday with dollar beer and soda plus 50-cent wings.
Friday night, the BlueClaws will have post-game fireworks thanks to Toyota/Scion World of Lakewood.
On Saturday, former Met and Yankee pitcher Doc Gooden will be in Lakewood for an autograph signing thanks to Pantano Nursery and Landscape Center. Please note the autograph line will form when the gates open and there is a limit of one item per person.
Sunday, the BlueClaws welcome Toodee and Plex from Nick Jr.'s Yo Gabba Gabba thanks to NJ Credit Unions. It's also a ShopRite Kids Eat Free Sunday.
The BlueClaws are the Jersey Shore's top stop for affordable family entertainment and they recently welcomed their 5-millionth fan to Lakewood, becoming the fastest team in New Jersey and South Atlantic League history to do so.
