Greensboro Gets Past Legends 3-1

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) Aaron Senne's two -run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning broke a 1-1 tie and the Greensboro Grasshoppers took a 3-1 victory over the Lexington Legends Tuesday night.

Starting pitchers Luis Cruz of Lexington and Jose Urena of Greensboro each pitched seven shutout innings before the Legends broke through in the top of the eighth against reliever Jose Rodriguez. Luis Alvarez led off with a double and moved to third when Delino DeShields Jr. grounded out to first. After Jordan Scott was hit by a pitch, Zach Johnson lined a single to center field, scoring Alvarez and giving the Legends a 1-0 lead. The run batted in was Johnson's 64th of the season. He is one behind South Atlantic League Leader Matt Skole of Hagerstown.

Greensboro answered quickly in the bottom of the eighth. Brent Keys led off with a triple and scored the tying run on a single by Austin Barnes. Senne then homered down the right field line to give the Grasshoppers a 3-1 lead.

Rodriguez (2-0) picked up the win. Cruz (5-5), who pitched to the first three batters in the eighth inning, took the loss.

Greensboro has won the first two games of the series, which continues with an afternoon game Wednesday. First pitch is set for 12:30 p.m.
