Asheville Tourists News Release

Ben Alsup pitched one of his best games of the year Tuesday night, as he led the Tourists to an 8-1 victory over the GreenJackets at Lake Olmstead Stadium. Alsup went 8.1 innings, allowed just two hits, and struck out seven en route to his eighth win of the year.

Jose Rivera led the offensive attack for Asheville by putting together a perfect night at the plate. Rivera finished 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored, and two RBI's. The Tourists second baseman also extended his hitting streak to six straight games.

Asheville batted around in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. Trevor Story and Jordan Ribera each singled in runs while Will Swanner drove in two with a single. Swanner has now reached base safely in 41 straight games.

Shawn Payne put the GreenJackets on the board with a solo Home Run in the bottom of the fourth; breaking up Alsup's no-hitter at the time.

Rivera and Chandler Laurent answered with back-to-back doubles up the third base line in the fifth, making it 5-1 Asheville. Brian Humphries doubled home Rivera in the sixth to extend the Tourists lead to five.

In the seventh, Rivera delivered again. This time he clubbed a two-run double plating Swanner and Jared Simon, but Jose was thrown out at third trying to stretch it into a triple.

Alsup came out to start the ninth inning, but with his pitch count up to 105, he was only allowed to face one batter. After Ben retired Kelby Tomlinson, Russell Brewer recorded the final two outs of the game.
