Rapid City Rush News Release

(Prescott Valley, AZ) - Down two goals heading into the final period, the Rapid City Rush received two goals from CHL MVP finalist Shawn Limpright, but eventually fell 3-2 to the Arizona Sundogs. Adam Smyth scored a pair for the Sundogs, including the game-winner, to pick up the win and conclude the 2011-12 regular season for both teams. The Rush's next game has yet to be determined as they await their opponent for the opening round of the 2012 Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Playoffs.

The Sundogs got the scoring underway near the midway point of the first stanza with the eleventh goal of the season from Adam Smyth who poked home a loose puck in the crease. With just sixteen seconds remaining, Kevin Petovello snapped a wrist shot from the right faceoff dot that glanced off the far post and in, doubling the Sundog advantage. The first intermission signaled the end of the game for goaltender Tim Boron and Kevin Beech stepped into the crease for his first action in a Rush uniform.

Rapid City came roaring out of the gate in the third, quickly evening the score at 2-2. Scott Wray's centering pass from the right corner set up Shawn Limpright for a point-blank chance that the veteran buried to the top-right corner just thirty seconds in. Less than four minutes later, Limpright struck again by completing a flurry at the front of the Sundog net, potting his 28th goal of the season. The tie lasted until the 9:55 mark when a defensive zone turnover by the Rush allowed Smyth to send a backhand from the slot that snuck through the five-hole of Beech for the game-winner.

The Rush penalty kill remained red-hot, shutting down all eight chances faced while the powerplay finished the night 1-for-5.
