Kansas City Mavericks News Release

TULSA, Oklahoma - The Missouri Mavericks closed out the 2011-12 regular season with a 6-5 overtime win over the Tulsa Oilers at BOK Center Sunday evening. Forward Ryan Jardine had a pair of goals including the overtime winner and four other Mavericks scored goals to give Missouri their fourth straight win as they head into the post-season. Missouri forward Ed McGrane extended his current scoring streak to 13 games with one assist and the streak marks the longest current streak in the Central Hockey League (CHL). Missouri now heads to the 2012 Ray Miron President's Cup Playoffs and the Mavericks first round opponent and schedule will be released shortly.

The Mavericks finished the season in third place in the Turner Conference with a 39-21-6 record and 84 points, and the team will head to the playoffs for the third time in as many seasons. The Mavericks also set franchise records for wins (39) and win percentage (.636).

"A good way to finish the year," said Mavericks' coach Scott Hillman. "A solid team effort and the special teams contributed to the big win."

Missouri jumped out to a 3-1 lead just minutes into the second period. After the Mavericks allowed the opening goal, Brandon Smith scored to tie the game at the 7:53 mark of the first period on a nice assist from Patrick Schafer who made the goalie commit and then dished the puck to Smith. Mavericks' defenseman Brad Good scored his first goal in his 60th game of the season on a slap shot from just inside the right circle to give Missouri a 2-1 lead at the 2:29 mark of the second period. Less than one minute later, Ryan Jardine took a pass from Ed McGrane, faked a wrist shot, and scored on the backhand to give the Mavericks' a 3-1 lead. Jardine's goal extended his point streak to three games and McGrane's assist extended his point streak to a CHL-high 13 games.

The Oilers and Dylan Clarke would not go away quietly as Clarke scored a pair of goals in the second period to tie the game at 3-3. His first goal came at the 7:04 mark, and then Clarke tied the game with 1:28 remaining in the period on assists from Mike Ullrich and Luke Lucyk. The teams went into the third period tied 3-3, and the Oilers had a 21-13 edge in shots.

David Simoes gave the Mavericks a 4-3 lead just 3:29 into the final period when he took a crossing feed from John-Scott Dickson and buried his fourth goal of the season. The Oilers tied the game again at 5:29 when Drew Fisher beat Mavericks' goaltender BJ O'Brien. At the midway point of the third, Dale Mahovsky gave the Mavericks a 5-4 lead when he redirected a pass from Sebastien Thinel past Oilers' goaltender Steve Christie, but the Oilers again answered on a goal by Ryan Cramer at the 11:55 mark. The teams did not score another goal in regulation and headed into the overtime period tied 5-5.

It only took Jardine 32 seconds into the overtime to give the Mavericks the win. His blast beat Oilers' goaltender Steve Christie and the Mavericks ended the season with a four-game win streak.

Playoff tickets are now on sale through Ticketmaster.com. The Mavericks first round opponent and dates will be announced this evening.
