Summary
RubberDucks pitcher Zach Plesac pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings in a 7-0 Game 1 win, and Akron had an eight-run sixth inning for a 10-7 win in Game 2, sweeping Saturday's doubleheader over the Altoona Curve at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Turning Points
The RubberDucks took a 2-0 first-inning lead but broke open Game 1 with a five-run fifth inning, with right fielder Connor Marabell's two-run double and first baseman Wilson Garcia's three-run double. In Game 2, Akron trailed, 6-2, entering the sixth inning, but third baseman Tyler Krieger and center fielder Ka'ai Tom each hit two-run homers, and left fielder Mitch Longo and right fielder Daniel Johnson each hit two-run singles to give Akron a 10-6 lead in a 14-batter inning.
Mound Presence
In Game 1, Plesac (1-0) worked around a pair of second-inning singles by inducing a double play to keep a 2-0 lead. That began a stretch of retiring 12 batters in a row, and he faced three batters over the minimum before departing with two outs and a runner at second base in the seventh inning. Right-hander Argenis Angulo got the final out. In Game 2, left-hander David Speer made his first start since May 22, 2018, and allowed a run in three innings. Right-hander Luke Eubank (1-1) allowed five runs in 2 2/3 innings but earned the win. Right-hander James Karinchak struck out the game's final two batters with the tying run at the plate to earn the save.
Duck Tales
All nine spots in the Game 2 lineup scored a run for Akron. Alexis Pantoja became the first RubberDuck this season with a four-hit game, while Johnson, with a two-run home run and two-run single, became the first with a four-RBI showing.
