HARTFORD- The Hartford Yard Goats slugged four home runs - tying a single game franchise record - to defeat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 9-6, before 6,145 Saturday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park. Jordan Foley, the second of four pitchers picked up his first win with 2.2 innings of relief, after starter Rico Garcia pitched four innings. Philip Diehl hurled 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, before Ben Bowden nailed down his second save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Down 1-0 in the first inning, the Yard Goats energized the crowd with three home runs: solo shots by Alan Trejo and Mylz Jones and a two-run upper deck home run by Vince Fernandez, his third homer in three games at Dunkin' Donuts Park. After New Hampshire (4-5) cut the lead to 4-3, Bret Boswell slugged a two-run upper deck blast for Hartford in the last of the second. He just missed another home run in the eighth inning, backing right fielder Chad Spanberger to the wall with a fly out.
Jones led Hartford's 10-hit attack with three hits and two RBI. Trejo had two hits and an RBI, while Fernandez and Boswell each had a home run and two RBI. Spanberger homered for New Hampshire.
The four-game series wraps up Sunday at Dunkin' Donuts Park at 1:05 PM. The Yard Goats, going for the series win, will send Ashton Goudeau to the mound against Andrew Sopko in a battle of right handed pitchers. The game will be broadcast on News Radio 1410AM, on 100.9 FM, in Spanish on 1120AM and on the Internet on newsradio1410.iheart.com and on MiLB.com.
