Akron RubberDucks News Release
Akron's Andrew Calica slugged a two-run homer and made two phenomenal catches in center field, and Sean Brady hurled seven innings for his third consecutive win, as the RubberDucks defeated the Reading Fightin Phils, 8-5, Saturday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pa.
Turning Point
The RubberDucks (39-29) extended their lead to 8-3 on Calica's two-run homer in the ninth off Edgar Garcia. It came with one out and drove in Tyler Krieger who had reached on an error. It was Calica's fourth home run of the season.
Mound Presence
Brady (4-3) pitched a season-high, seven innings to pick up his third straight win. He allowed two runs on three hits, one of which was a solo homer by Reading's Darick Hall in the second inning. Brady walked none and struck out two and capped his outing by retiring the final 10 batters he faced. When he exited the game, the RubberDucks led 6-2. Mitch Brown worked the eighth and allowed one run to make it 6-3. In the ninth, Argenis Angulo inherited an 8-3 lead, but walked three and struck out two. He was lifted with the bases loaded in favor of Henry Martinez who immediately gave up a RBI single to Brendan Bednar. Pinch-hitter Kyle Martin reach on catcher's interference to close the gap to 8-5, but Martinez was able to induce a pop-up by Malquin Canelo to end the threat and post his fourth save.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks matched a season-high with four home runs. Sam Haggerty and Krieger swatted solo homers in the second off Reading starter Franklin Kilome (1-4). Daniel Salters jacked a two-run shot in the sixth, and Calica added his timely, two-run blast in the ninth. Bobby Bradley and Joe Sever chipped in RBI singles. Sever and Krieger had two hits apiece.
