Royals victorious over Hitmen

Calgary, AB - Ryan Gagnon and Tyler Soy both scored a pair of goals to lead the CHL's number six ranked Victoria Royals to a 6-2 victory over the Calgary Hitmen on Friday evening at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The visiting Royals, who jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage after 20 minutes of play, also received goals from Logan Fisher and Matthew Phillips.

Rookie Bryce Platt and Jordy Stallard replied for the Hitmen as Coleman Vollrath picked up his 27th win of the season with a 21-save effort.

Nik Amundrud started between the pipes for Calgary and turned aside six of nine shots he faced in the first period, while Cody Porter made 22 saves in a relief appearance.

The Hitmen, 35-23-2-2, open a two-game road trip beginning Saturday, Feb. 27, in Swift Current (Sportsnet.ca/960 - Alt Stream) followed by a Friday, Mar. 4, visit to Red Deer. Calgary returns home to host the Rebels on Sunday, Mar. 6, at 4:00 p.m.
