The Edmonton Oil Kings were down 1-0 before fans even got to their seats but stepped up their game cruising to a 6-2 win Friday night over the Kootenay Ice.

Lane Bauer and Davis Koch each had a goal and two assists for Edmonton and Patrick Dea stopped 26 of 28 shots in the win.

"Not the start we were looking for," said Head Coach Steve Hamilton. "But a good response shortly thereafter. But we managed the game to get pucks up and in and when we did that I thought we started to get some consistent traction."

Kootenay opened the scoring when Matt Alfaro snapped home a point blank shot just 17 seconds in behind a surprised Dea.

Tyler Robertson answered back with his 14th of the season when he came in on a one-on-three as his linemates were changing and sent a wrist shot that fooled Ice netminder Wyatt Hoflin. Not five minutes later, Oil Kings leading goal scorer, Bauer, added to his total firing home his 26th after accepting a beautiful pass from Koch in the slot.

Edmonton jumped out of the gates in the middle frame with energy and forced a turnover in Kootenay's end resulting in Dario Meyer collecting his 12th tally on the year. They poured it on from there as Brett Pollock (24th) and Koch (6th) also scored before Alfaro made it 5-2 on his second of the night to close out the period.

The lone goal in the third came off of an Aaron Irving slapshot while on the powerplay as the native wired home his 7th of the season past Hoflin.

Hamilton thought the line of Koch-Bauer-Pollock was dangerous all night and it payed off for them.

"Some craft offensive plays. Certainly that goal was very crafty. Their line can be a very dangerous line."

Koch was impressed at his team's effort despite the quick 1-0 start.

"Our start wasn't the best but we came on after that and played hard," said Koch. "We got the lead and just kept pushing. We finished hard."

Edmonton will head east through the Crowsnest for a date in Lethbridge tomorrow vs the Hurricanes. Game time is 7pm and Corey Graham has the call on TSN 1260 or follow along on Twitter for updates.
