Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV - The Reading Royals used 11 power-play opportunities to score twice en route to a 6-3 win over the Wheeling Nailers Saturday Night at WesBanco Arena in front of a season-high 5,051 fans. Dave Brown stopped 33 shots in his second straight start in goal for the Nailers.

Sean Collymore and Marc Cavosie each had four point nights (1g, 3a) for the Royals while Brock Hooten added three points of his own (1g, 2a).

Collymore scored the only goal of the first period at the 13:00 mark on a great feed from Hooten. As the Royals took over the puck in the Nailers' corner, Hooten slid a pass through a maze of defenders and onto the stick of Collymore. He held the puck long enough to pull Brown out of position and roofed the puck for his first point of the night.

The Nailers were whistled for five minor penalties in the first period, with the last two causing some trouble. Seamus Young and Jon Krall were in the box for the start of the second period giving Reading a 5-on-3 advantage to start the frame. It was just 35 seconds from the period's opening faceoff when Joe Zappala gave his team a 2-0 lead. Cavosie and Scott Parse assisted on the goal.

The goal sparked the Nailers who responded quickly to tie the game. At 3:30 of the second, Kevin Croxton added to his team lead in goals with his 18th of the season. His wrist shot deflected off a skate in the slot and past goaltender Jonathan Quick to cut the Royals lead in half, 2-1.

At 7:31 Wheeling tied the game. Justin Chwedoruk worked the puck along the end boards before feeding Joe Guenther at the side of the net. Guenther's backhand got in between Quick and the right post for his sixth goal as a Nailers and eighth of the year. Chwedoruk now has a point in each of the last four games (3g,1a).

Reading responded with a quick goal of the own just 1:35 after the Nailers had tied the score. Collymore carried the puck into the Nailers zone and found Parse at the front of the goal to give his team back the lead for good. A second 5-on-3 advantage for Reading allowed Hooten to score with just 52 seconds left in the second period.

Trailing 4-2 to begin the third, the Nailers allowed two more goals before they would score again. Dany Roussin and Cavosie added even-strength goals at 1:54 and 9:06 respectively to push the Royals lead to 6-2.

Seamus Young scored a power-play goal from Matt Johnson and Kelly Miller at 18:21 of the third to reach the 6-3 final score.

The two teams will skate again Sunday at WesBanco Arena. Game time is set for 6:05pm. The first 2,500 fans will receive a Wheeling Nailers team poster and all fans are invited to skate with the team following the game. Call 304-234-GOAL or visit www.wheelingnailers.com to place a ticket order.
