Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the organization has signed defenseman Bobby Davey to an ECHL contract. In a separate transaction, the Albany River Rats of the AHL returned defenseman Steve Ward to the Royals.

In fourteen games with the Fresno Falcons this season, Davey (6'1/200) (21), who is in his first year of pro hockey, racked up fifty-seven penalty minutes, which included seven fighting majors. Davey became a free agent when the Falcons ceased operations earlier this month. Prior to turning pro, Davey, who hails from West Hill, Ontario, played 240 major junior games in the Ontario Hockey League over four seasons, scoring four goals, assisting on nineteen others and racking up 682 penalty minutes. Ward, who was loaned to Albany on December 12, played six games with the River Rats and registered one assist while playing to a plus 3 (+3).

Reading returns to action tomorrow night (Tuesday, December 30, 2008 @ 7:05 pm), when the Royals face the Johnstown Chiefs. Tuesday's game will be broadcast live on the Royals Radio Network Presented by Transmissions by Arbogast (True Oldies WRAW 1340 am in Reading; and The Ticket WLAN 1390 am in Lancaster), as well as on the internet via webcast hosted by Sportsjuice.com, which can be accessed through the Royals website.
