Reading Royals News Release

TOP NOTES OF THE WEEK

1. The Royals snapped the team's five game winless streak (0-4-1) with the 4-2 win over the Dayton Bombers on Saturday. That game also concluded the Royals' six game road trip during which the team went 1-4-1.

2. The ten goals scored by the Wheeling Nailers on Friday night in the 10-6 win over Reading is the second most ever scored on the Royals in a single game. On December 27, 2002, the Cincinnati Cyclones defeated the Royals 13-2. The sixteen total goals between the two clubs on Friday is an all-time high for a Royals' game. This marked the second time this season that the Nailers have been involved in a game in which the two teams scored a total of 16 goals. (Wheeling defeated the Cincinnati Cyclones 9-7 on October 24, 2008).

3. The Royals scored five goals in the third period of Friday's game in Wheeling, marking a season high for goals in a single period by the team. The six total goals scored by Reading in that game tied a season high. (The Royals also scored a total of six goals in the 6-2 win over Idaho on November 1 and the 6-5 shootout win over Elmira on December 7). The team's forty-four shots that night also established a new season high.

4. The Royals were outscored in the second period by a total of 6-1 in the two games played this week (4-1 @ Wheeling on Friday; and 2-1 @ Dayton on Saturday). Over the first 32 games this season, Reading has been outscored by a total of thirty goals in the second period (57 - 27).

5. Kirk MacDonald registered his second consecutive multiple point game when he scored two goals in Friday's 10-6 loss in Wheeling. That was MacDonald's second two- goal game of the year. (He also scored two goals in Reading 4-3 loss in Dayton on November 30.) MacDonald leads the Royals with ten goals; and he is tied for the team lead (with Tyler Doig) with seven multi-point games.

6. Tyler Doig racked up back-to-back three point performances in the two games this week. Doig scored a goal and picked up two assists in the 10-6 loss in Wheeling on Friday; and he assisted on three of the Royals' goals in the 4-2 win in Dayton on Saturday. Doig, who leads the Royals with twenty-three points (6g - 17a) in twenty-seven games played, has registered four three-point games this season. Doig, who is currently riding a three game point streak (2g-5a), has picked up fifteen points (5g - 10a) in his last eleven games.

7. Peder Skinner scored a goal and picked up an assist in Friday's game in Wheeling to register his fourth multi-point game in eleven played with the Royals. Skinner also scored the first goal of the game on Saturday night in Dayton, which was his first 'first goal' of the season. Skinner, who is currently riding a three game point streak (2g - 2a), has picked up his thirteen points (4g - 9a) in his eleven games with Reading.

8. Brock Hooton scored two goals, a short-handed goal and a third-period game winner, in Saturday's 4-2 win in Dayton. Hooton also picked up an assist on the game's first goal that night and, thus, registered his first three-point performance of the season (and his fourth multi-point game). Hooton's short-handed goal was his third of the year (tying him for the league lead in that category) and his ninth as a member of the Royals-last year, he had three SHGs during the regular season and three in the playoffs. Hooton's second goal of the night (at the 2:24 mark of the third) was his first game winner of the season. Last year, Hooton led the Royals with a total of nine game winners (five in the regular season and four in the playoffs).

9. Michael Ouzas registered his first win as a Royal in his first start for the team on Saturday night in Dayton, when he stopped 36 of the 38 shots he faced. That marked Ouzas' eleventh win of the year (ten of which were with the Fresno Falcons), which places him tied for fourth amongst ECHL goaltenders in that category.

10. The Royals snapped a string of four games and twenty-five consecutive chances with the man advantage without scoring a power play goal when Mac Faulkner scored a PPG at the 17:02 mark of the second period in Wheeling on Saturday. The Royals scored a second PPG in that game and also scored a pair of PPGs in Dayton on Satur- day, marking the first time this season that the Royals have scored multiple PPGs in back-to-back games (and the eighth time the team has had more than one PPG in a single game). The Royals have scored 25 PPGs in 157 chances with the man advantage this year, which is a 15.0% scoring ratio (tied for 12th in the league).

11. The Nailers scored 3 PPGA on the Royals on Friday, marking the sixth time this year Reading has allowed 3 PPGA in a game (and the tenth time the team has given up multiple PPGsA). Reading has allowed 43 PPGA in 190 power play chances for the opposition, which is a 77.4% kill ratio (twenty-first in the league).

CLOSING NOTES

1. David Nimmo extended his personal goal scoring streak to three games with a goal against Wheeling on Friday. That ties the season high for the Royals, who have had four players put together three game goal scoring streaks (Max Taylor, Ned Lukacevic, and Mac Faulkner being the others). Although Nimmo's goal scor- ing streak was snapped on Saturday, he did pick up an assist and is currently riding a four game point streak (3g - 1a).

2. Mac Faulkner (1g-2a) and Shawn Snider (0g-3a) both registered three point performances in Friday's loss in Wheeling. For Faulkner that was his second three point game of the year (and fourth multi-point performance). For Snider, that marked his first three point game (and his fourth multi-pointer).

3. Rob LaLonde scored his first goal of the season in Saturday's 4-2 win over Dayton. Six (1g - 5a) of LaLonde's nine points this year have come in three games against the Bombers. LaLonde currently leads active players in the Royals' lineup with a Plus 4 (+4) plus/minus rating.

4. Saturday's game marked the fourth time (out of six opportunities) this year that the Royals have won a game in which they were tied after two periods.

5. Jon Quick, who played 38 games with the Royals last season (23-11-2-1; 2.79, .905) registered two shutouts for the Los Angeles Kings this past week (24 saves in a 3-0 v Columbus Blue Jackets on 12/23) and (26 saves in a 4-0 v Phoe- nix Coyotes on 12/26). Quick has compiled a 2-2-0 record with a 1.88 gaa and a .933 save % with LA this year. In his one shutout with the Royals last season, Quick not only blanked the Pensacola Ice Pilots (10/26/07), he also scored a goal.
