BOMBERS NOTES
RIEDEL LEADS CHARGE AGAINST CINCY: Dan Riedel led all players in scoring on Friday night with 4 points as the Bombers beat the Cincinnati Cyclones 5-1. Mike Looby and Riedel netted goals in the first, then Jarret Lukin grew the lead to 3-0 in the second. While the Cyclones posted a goal in the third, Les Reaney and Mike McLean put in two more insurance goals as the game ended. Paul Drew went 31 of 32 in net and the Bombers were 2 of 9 on the power play.
DON'T CALL THEM UNDERDOGS: The Bombers fell to the last place Reading Royals on Saturday night by a score of 4-2. Justin Bowers and Jarret Lukin each scored in the second period to take a 2-2 tie into the final frame, but the Royals netted two goals in the third to come away with the victory. Goaltender Tyler Plante was 22 of 26 and dropped to 4-7-0-1 on the year. The Bombers were 1 of 8 on the power play and 3 of 5 on the penalty kill.
DOWN TO THE LAST DROP: It came down to the last shot in a shootout between the Bombers and Wheeling Nailers on Sunday to determine the game winner as Wheeling topped Dayton 3-2. Despite two second period goals from Ryan Smyth (shorthanded) and Danny LaPointe (on the power play), the game came down to goaltending in the end. Netminder Paul Drew was 22 of 24 for the Bombers and 4 of 5 in the shootout, but Wheeling's Curtis Darling stopped 52 of the Bombers' season-high 54 shots and all five attempts in the shootout to earn the win.
BLUE LINE, TOP LINE: Defensemen Greg Labenski and Joe Van Culin lead the Bombers blueliners in scoring and rank 11th and 10th in the league, respectively. Labenski picked up a pair of assists on Friday against Cincinnati for his fourth multi-point game of the season.
BOWERS ON A ROLL: Rookie forward Justin Bowers has a four-game point streak in the works, picking up a goal and three assists in the time frame. He's currently 11th in the league in scoring and 4th amongst first-year players.
WHO'S HOT: Mike McLean has six points in his last five games (2g,4a), while Dominic D'Amour has tallied two goals and five assists in his last five tilts. D'Amour had a pair of multi-point games last week to bring his season total to four.
LEADERS OF THE PACK: The Bombers rank in the top of many ECHL statistical categories. Here are just a few examples: Dan Riedel is tied for second with 14 points on the power play, Justin Bowers is tied for second amongst rookies with 21 assists, Greg Labenski has 14 power play points, good for 3rd amongst blueliners, and leads them with 85 shots; Paul Drew's 2.77 GAA is 18th best in the league.
CENTURY CLUB: The Bombers netted their 100th goal of the season when Ryan Smyth scored shorthanded in the second period against Wheeling on Sunday. The Bombers are the 7th team this season to reach the milestone.
MILLENNIUM CLUB: The team has 972 shots on the year through 31 games. They average more than 31 shots per game and should cross the 1,000 mark in Trenton on Friday night.
BREATHING ROOM: The Bombers improved to 8-0-0 when leading after the first period with their win on Friday night. Their first period goal from Mike Looby was just the eighth time all season the Bombers had scored first in a game. Helping the cause is the Bombers' finesse for last minute goals, as evident by their third period scoring advantage - 38-27 - over their opponents.
MILESTONES: The following Bombers players are approaching career milestones: Dan Riedel - 4 goals shy of 50 career goals and 4 assists shy of 50 career assists; Mike Looby - 4 points shy of 50 career points; Dominic D'Amour - 7 assists shy of 50 career assists
TEAM LEADERS: The following Bombers lead the team in these statistical categories:
Goals: Jarret Lukin & Dan Riedel - 13
Assists: Justin Bowers - 21
Points: Justin Bowers - 31
PIM: Greg Labenski - 54

HOCKEY COMMUNITY TURNS OUT FOR KYLE CANNON: On Sunday the Bombers hosted a fundraiser for Kyle Cannon, the 14-year-old Toledo native who was paralyzed at a high school tournament in Dayton over Thanksgiving weekend. Through a silent auction, pre-sale tickets, chuck-a-puck sales, Stanley Cup photos and general donations, the team was able to raise more than $20,000 for the Cannon Family.
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE: Fans can still win auction items to benefit the Cannon's by visiting the Bombers eBay store and bidding throughout the week. A Fiesta Bowl package, including 2 Club level tickets and a travel voucher, is available now by clicking here. More items, including autographed pictures from the Los Angeles Kings and Carolina Hurricanes, and autographed Ontario Hockey league All-Star memorabilia will be added tomorrow.
SHOW YOUR APPRECIATION: The Bombers next home game is Saturday, January 10 when the Wheeling Nailers come to town for Military Appreciation Night II. Silver level tickets are 2-for-1 with a military ID or CID at the Nutter Center box office. The team will be wearing special WPAFB jerseys designed by base personnel Denise Baker. The jerseys will be auctioned off live after the game to benefit the Fisher/Nightingale Houses and the Dayton Bombers Foundation.
ON AIR: Catch two of the Bombers three road games this weekend on WONE 980AM as broadcaster JT Szabo calls the games from Trenton on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and Reading on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. All three road games will be available on the internet with B2 Networks audio and video broadcasts.
TICKETS ON SALE: Tickets for each Dayton Bombers home game are on sale at the Nutter Center box office or any Ticketmaster outlet, including www.ticketmaster.com.
