Reign Drop Match to Condors, 6-2

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings and the AHL Manchester Monarchs, were defeated by the Bakersfield Condors, 6-2, in front of 4,944 fans at Bakersfield's Rabobank Arena, Sunday evening. Reign center Jon Francisco and left wing Chris Curran scored in the match, with the team continuing to hold first place in the Pacific Division standings (38 points), ten points ahead of the Las Vegas Wranglers in second.

Center Jon Francisco put the Reign (18-10-1-1) on the board first, firing the puck past Bakersfield goaltender Ryan Nie at 3:48 in the first period, to put the Reign ahead, 1-0, over the Condors. Francisco netted his team-leading thirteenth goal of the season as right wings Maxime Boisclair and Geoff Walker registered the assists on the play. Condors right wing Chad Painchaud tied the game at, 1-1, getting the puck past Reign goaltender John Murray at 5:11 in the period, followed by a power play goal by forward Andrew Ianiero, at the 7:16 mark to take the lead, 2-1.

Bakersfield netted two additional goals in the second, with Martin Frechette and Matt Pope pushing the Condors lead to, 4-1. Ontario's left wing Chris Curran brought the game within two as he lit the lamp, netting his third goal of the season, off a combination from Center Tim Kraus and left wing Todd Jackson at 18:02. Curran's goal extended his point streak to 3-games as he sent the match into the third with a score, 4-2.

The Condors increased their lead to four in the third period as right wing Mike Wirll netted two goals to give the Condors a, 6-2, lead. Reign netminder John Murray blocked 40 of the 46 shots he faced in the match, but the Reign couldn't make a comeback as they fell to the Condors with a final score, 6-2, ending their six-game win streak. The Reign look ahead to a back-to-back series against the Idaho Steelheads Friday, January 2, and Saturday, January 3, as they meet up with the club for the first time in the 2008-09 season.
