St. Cloud Rox News Release
The St. Cloud Rox broke out the boomsticks and put a series of crooked numbers on the scoreboard in routing the Alexandria Beetles 15 to 7 on Wednesday night at Joe Faber Field.
Four Rox players had multiple hit games in the error-filled contest.
The Beetles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning after a two-out error extended the Alexandria inning and resulted in the trio of runs. After that point, however, it was all Rox as they put up eleven unanswered runs on their way to the big win. The Beetles committed four errors in the game and the Rox made three gaffes in the field.
It started with a five-run bottom of the second inning. The big hits were a two-RBI single by Phil Imholte (St Cloud State) and a two-RBI double by Ben Morgan (Georgia Southern).
The Rox added a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning when Travis Enger (St Cloud State) scored on a wild pitch and Tony Skjefte (Minnesota) scored the Rox seventh run on an Alexandria error.
In the fourth Boo Vazquez (Pittsburgh) led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Chris Paul (California) doubled home Mark Rhine (Wake Forest) to make it a 9-3 game. Andy Henkemeyer (Minnesota) singled home Paul and Skjefte to make it 11-3 in favor of the Rox.
St. Cloud starter Tadd Johansen (1-0, 0.00) allowed six runs but none of them were earned. In the "bizarre stat" category, Johansen has given up 12 runs in two starts but zero of the runs have been earned.
St. Cloud plated one run in the fifth inning and three in the sixth to cap the scoring. Imholte finished 3-5 on the night with two RBI, Morgan was 3-6 with two RBI, Enger finished 2-3 and Vazquez was 2-5. Overall the Rox finished with 15 hits to the Beetles five.
The Rox are back in action on Thursday night in Alexandria before heading home for a weekend series with the Beetles on Friday/Saturday.
