Alexandria Beetles News Release

St. Cloud, MN - Another early inning lead for the Alexandria Beetles turned into a resounding defeat on Wednesday as the St. Cloud Rox pounded out 15 runs and 15 hits against the Alexandria pitching staff in a 15-7 win.

Alexandria (2-6) led 3-0 after the top of the second only to watch the Rox (3-5) pound out five runs in the bottom of the second against Beetle starter Mitchell Babb (0-2). St. Cloud added two in the third, four in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth against the Beetles bullpen to send the visitors to their fifth straight defeat.

Tadd Johansen earned the win, allowing six runs, all unearned, in five innings.

The Beetles scored three in the top of the second on a pair of St. Cloud errors and two out extra base hits by the bottom two in the lineup - a double by Jared Musgrove and a triple by Dylan Raper.

But Babb could not hold the lead, walking two, hitting a batter, and allowing three hits in the bottom of the second as St. Cloud scored five runs.

Alexandria would never threaten the lead again, as St. Cloud battered the Beetle staff with every starter but two in the Rox lineup recording at least one hit.

The Beetles added a second three-spot in the fifth on a throwing error and a two-out RBI single by Jon Traetow, who also singled in the final Alexandria run in the seventh.

The two teams will play tomorrow night at Knute Nelson at 7:05 CST in the second game of a four-game set.
