Mallards Welcome Bullfrogs to the "Duck Pond"

Madison, WI - June 7, 2012. The Madison Mallards (4-4) head home to the "Duck Pond" to take on the Green Bay Bullfrogs (4-4) in the second game of a three game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.

The Mallards took game one of the series 2-1 in Green Bay on Wednesday. A two run homer by first baseman Phil Sorenson (UT-Martin), his first of the year, and an efficient ninth by closer John Hamilton (UNC-Charlotte) highlighted the teams first road win of the season.

Starting pitcher Matt LaMothe (Georgia College and State) was phenomenal on the mound in his second start of the season, striking out eight and allowing one run on six hits in 6.0 innings on the mound. LaMothe's (2-0) quality performance got him the win and was good enough to get him named the Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night.

Taking the hill tonight for the Mallards will be right-hander Trevor Foss (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi). The Janesville native will be looking to continue his stellar start to the season after a dominant performance in his last start, a 3-2 win over the La Crosse Loggers. Over 8.0 innings of work Foss (0-0) had 11 strikeouts, while allowing two runs and four hits.

Countering for the Bullfrogs will be starting right-hander Bryce Bellin (Minnesota State), who will be making his Northwoods League debut. In his freshmen season at Minnesota State Bellin was impressive in his role as a starter in the teams rotation. In 67.2 innings of work he compiled a 10-2 record with a 4.52 ERA and 66 strikeouts. His last appearance of his collegiate season he gave up three runs off of two hits in a 6-5 loss to Delta State.

The back end of the Mallards rotation has been rock solid to start the season. Hamilton has flourished in his role as the teams closer, going two for two in save opportunities and posting a 0.00 ERA in three appearances. Meanwhile relievers Sam Forkert (Marian) and Danny Sullivan (Madison College) have both done well as setup men, combining for a 0.98 ERA in seven appearances.

The Northwoods League is eight games into the season and no team has separated themself from the pack in the South Division. Entering today all eight teams were within two games of first, with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (5-3) surging to the division lead on the back of a three game win streak.

The Mallards will finish their three game series with the Bullfrogs on Friday June 8th. That night fans will be able to pick up LEGO Maynard kits designed by briXwerX studios presented by Zimbrick Honda. The Inflatamaniacs will also be on hand to provide in game entertainment.
