Mankato MoonDogs News Release
MANKATO, Minn.--The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, pulled out a tight victory over the Thunder Bay Border Cats 5-3 at Franklin Rogers Park with Blair Moore (Cal Baptist) leading the squad offensively going two-for-three with two runs batted in (RBIs).
Wayland Moore (Marshall) got the start on the mound for the MoonDogs going six innings, recording six strikeouts, had solid command with one walk, and giving up two runs. Patrick Goelz (Oklahoma City) closed out the game for his second save of the season blowing it by Border Cat batters with pure confidence on the mound.
Trey Nielsen (Utah) got the momentum going for the MoonDogs in the first inning by crushing a homerun to left field for his first of the season.
Despite losing a couple of key players to the MLB draft Wednesday, the MoonDogs were able to pull it together with some unfamiliar faces. Chris Munoz (Oklahoma City) got his first start of the season after rolling in to Mankato just last night. Munoz played a solid shortstop with having one hit, one run and one RBI.
The MoonDogs look to pull out another victory in the third game of the series v. Thunder Bay tomorrow in Mankato at The Frank starting at 7:05 p.m. It's MAYBA/MAGFA night and any kid wearing their jersey gets in free with a paid adult.
