Thunder Bay Border Cats News Release

Adam Martin and Luke Weber clubbed back-to-back home runs in the 4th inning, erasing a 1-0 Thunder Bay lead, and the St. Cloud Rox went on to beat the Border Cats 5-2 Tuesday night at Joe Faber Field. Tyler Duplantis (Nicholls State University) had put the Cats on the board with a solo homer in the 1st inning, his seventh of the season. The Cats tied the game 2-2 in the top of the 5th inning on an RBI double by Cory Kay (Missouri State University), but the Rox regained the lead with a single run in the bottom of the 5th and added two insurance runs off Zach Thiac (Nicholls State University) in the 8th inning to seal the victory. Duplantis, Philip Lyons (Nicholls State University), and Kyle Hann (Mississippi State University) all had two hits for Thunder Bay. Hann raised his average to .414 with a 2-3 night at the plate.

Steven Cazares (Sterling College) delivered a quality start in his Border Cats debut, but took the loss. The righthander pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed seven hits and three runs. Cazares walked two and struck out three. The loss dropped the Cats second half record to 1-5.

The Cats and Rox play the third game of their four-game series tonight at 8:05pm ET. Caleb Smith (Rice University) is the scheduled starter for Thunder Bay. The righthander has appeared in seven games, including six starts, and is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA.
