Cats Drop Opener In St. Cloud

The St. Cloud Rox erupted for seven runs in the 2nd inning and cruised to a 12-3 win over the Border Cats Monday night at Joe Faber Field. It was the opening game of a four-game series between the two clubs in St. Cloud and they will meet six straight times this week. The Rox will visit Thunder Bay for a two-game series on Friday and Saturday. The loss dropped the Cats second half record to 1-4.

Anthony Pastrana (Dominican College) started for the Cats, but lasted just 1 2/3 innings as he allowed seven hits and eight runs. Kyle Hann (Mississippi State University) hit his second home run of the season for the Cats as he went 2-4 at the plate. Brad Burcroff (Northeastern University) went 2-3 with a double and a run scored.

The Cats and Rox meet again tonight at 8:05pm ET. Steven Cazares will make his debut on the mound for Thunder Bay. The 6'5", junior righthander from Upland, CA., pitched in 23 games this season for Sterling College, an NAIA school in Kansas, where he went 9-2 with a 0.88 ERA. Cazares had four complete games and two shutouts and struck out 64 batters in 71 2/3 innings pitched.
