Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, WI - The Madison Mallards (4-2, 25-14) are back home at the "Duck Pond" tonight against the Eau Claire Express (3-3, 15-25) and hope to continue the offensive fireworks that were on display Monday night.
Every starter in the Mallards lineup had multiple hits last night besides Tate Matheny (Missouri State), who finished 1-for-4 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI. Drew Weeks (North Florida), Bre Kimbell (Louisiana Tech) and John LaPrise (Virginia) led the way with three hits each.
The Mallards bullpen relieved starter Shawn Hunter (Oklahoma State) in the third inning and allowed just three hits and no runs. Sam Forkert (Marian) got the win and Kristian Calibuso (Eastern Michigan) and Hunter May (UNC-Charlotte) also made appearances.
Cam Verbeke (Illinois State) will make his third start of the year-and tenth appearance-tonight for the Mallards. So far in 2013, the 6'1" righty is 3-1 with a 3.03 ERA in 26.2 innings of work. He suffered his only loss of the year in his last relief appearance on July 6th against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. He allowed two runs (both earned) on three hits in two innings. The Rafters went on to win 6-5.
