
Rox Slide By With Win Over Willmar, 6-5

Willmar, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox traveled to Willmar Sunday to start a two-game series against the Stingers. The Rox came out with the win by a final score of 6-5 in game one.
The Stingers took a 1-0 lead over the Rox in the bottom of the second inning off a single by Max Dutto.
St. Cloud would get the bats going in the top of the third as Tim Colwell posted a lead off single and then advanced to second on a stolen base and to third on a wild pitch. Blake Headley followed earning a walk. Bradley Strong was next up hitting a sacrifice fielder's choice to reach first and moved Headley to second and scored Colwell to tie the game up 1-1. Clay Williamson grounded out to third putting runners on second and third for the Rox. Adam Martin would also ground out but scored Headley on the play to take a 2-1 lead over Willmar. A single by Luke Weber would score the final run in the inning for the Rox as they took a 3-1 lead over the Stingers.
Willmar posted two runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game up at three each off a two-run double.
The Rox came back and answered right away in the top of the fourth putting up three runs as Charlie Morgan got the inning started with a single. Colwell also singled moving Morgan to second. Strong showed up big for the Rox hitting a two-run triple and then scoring himself on the throw taking the Rox to a 6-3 lead.
The Stingers were able to bring the game within one in the bottom of the seventh off back-to-back doubles making it a 6-5 game.
St. Cloud would hold on to their lead sealing a 6-5 win in the bottom of the ninth.
Jason Hoppe earned the start on the mound for the Rox, pitching 5.0 innings and recording the win to move his record to 2-3 on the season. Also seeing action was Jay Flaa for 1.0 innings, Reese Gregory for 2.0 innings, and Adam Maxon for 1.0 innings. Maxon also earned the save in the game, making it his fifth of the season.
The St. Cloud Rox (21-25, 7-4 Second Half) and the Willmar Stingers (27-18, 4-6 Second Half) will be back in action Monday night as they move the series to St. Cloud for game two. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. from Joe Faber Field.
