Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release
Green Bay, Wisc - The Battle Creek Bombers (4-7) defeated the Green Bay Bullfrogs (3-7) on Saturday night by a final of 10-6.
Just as they did last night, Green Bay got on the board first. They plated two runs off starter Kyle Slack who lasted just two innings. The Bombers found themselves in an early hole, but Matthew Fears cut the Bullfrog lead in half with a solo homer in the top of the second inning making it 2-1. If was the fifth home run of the year for Fears. The Bullfrogs got two more off Slack who made way for Ethan Bramschreiber in the third. The Bombers would scrape a run across in the fifth as Rouric Bridgewater scored to make it a 5-2 ballgame. However, Ethan kept the Bullfrog offense quiet allowing the Bombers to tack on runs in the sixth.
The sixth inning started with back-to-back singles from Cam Gibson and Kade Scivicque . Gibson scored moments later on a Tyler Moore RBI single. Rouric Bridgewater then followed with a 2 RBI triple. The next batter, Greg Velazquez singled home Bridgewater, giving Battle Creek their first lead of the game. Matthew Goodson doubled home Velazquez to extend the lead. Daniel Cucjen later walked and stole second base allowing Goodson to cross home plate. All told, the Bombers plated six runs and took an 8-5 lead into the bottom of the sixth. Brian Heldman (W 2-2) pitched two-thirds of an inning of scoreless baseball while striking out a pair.
Ben Graff (L 0-3) started for the Bullfrogs and went five and two-thirds giving up all eight runs on nine hits while striking out five. The Bullfrogs touched up Todd Eaton for a run in the eighth inning on a bases loaded walked making it 8-6. Battle Creek tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning. Moore drove in Cucjen and Tommy Mirabelli with a two-out double down the right field line giving the Bombers a 10-6 lead. Gabe Berman (S 6) finished things off, pitching a perfect bottom of the ninth.
Alex Tukey (0-2) will take the mound in the final game of the series tomorrow.
