Huskies Shut out Honkers to Begin Series

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers bats were never able to get going in a 8-0 loss to the Duluth Huskies on Sunday July 14 at Wade Stadium in Duluth, MN.

Kyle Teaf started the bottom of the third inning with a lead-off double and came around to score on a RBI single from Keith Curcio to give the Huskies an early 1-0 lead.

Duluth added three runs in each of the next two innings to build a 7-0 lead after five innings of play. Curcio drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth inning to score the final run for the Huskies.

Chris Cervantes earned the win (2-1) for Duluth. He allowed three hits in seven shutout innings. Nick Dolsky (Oklahoma State) took the loss (0-2) for Rochester. He allowed four runs on five hits in 3.1 innings of work. Alex Tenorio (Menlo College) allowed one run on four hits in three innings of work in relief, while Hayden Edwards (Kansas) pitched a perfect eighth inning, with two strikeouts, for the Honkers.

Tyler Baker (Wichita State) led the Honkers offense by going 2-for-3 on the night. Kalei Hanawahine (Hawaii,) Max Murphy (Bradley,) and Caleb Dugas (Copiah-Lincoln Community College) each collected a hit.

The two teams will finish up a two-game series on Monday July 15 at 6:35 in Duluth. Quinn Carpenter (Iowa Western) is scheduled to make his first start of the season for the Honkers (1-10, 19-27.) Jake Heissler (Central Missouri) is slated to start for the Huskies (7-4, 27-19) Rochester will play in Mankato on Tuesday before hosting the Mankato MoonDogs on Wednesday July 17 at 7:05 p.m. at Mayo Field.
