Thunder Bay Border Cats News Release
Righthander Clint Knoblauch fired seven solid innings to lead the Border Cats to a 6-1 victory over the St. Cloud Rox before 765 fans Saturday night at Subway Field. Knoblauch, a freshman from Florida Gulf Coast University, improved his record to 3-4 and he allowed just six hits and one run. The native of Wellington, FL., walked three and struck out five. NWL All Star Zach Thiac (Nicholls State University) and Anthony Pastrana (Dominican College) each pitched a shutout inning in relief as the Cats upped their second half record to 3-7.
With the score tied 1-1, the Cats broke the game open with a two-run 5th inning and then added three runs in the bottom of the 6th. Jason Vosler (Northeastern University) drove in his team leading 31st run as he went 2-3 with a run scored. Alex Bautista (Clarendon College) had a 2-3 night at the plate and scored once while Kyle Hann (Mississippi State University) had two hits in four at-bats. Hann also turned a sensational double play at shortstop with a flip behind his back directly from his glove to second baseman Philip Lyons, who completed the twin-killing with a perfect throw to first baseman and college teammate Tyler Duplantis (Nicholls State University). Ty Stetson (Murray State University) walked three times and scored once and also made a great running catch up against the centre field fence.
The Cats head out for an eight-game road trip starting Sunday in Iowa against the first place Waterloo Bucks. Lefthander Mike Hanchar (Iowa Western Community College) will pitch the opener of the two game series for the Cats at 7:35pm ET. Hanchar, who signed with the Cats earlier this week, has appeared in one game in relief and is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA.
