Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release
Green Bay, Wisc - The Battle Creek Bombers (5-7) defeated the Green Bay Bullfrogs (3-8) on Sunday afternoon in ten innings, 12-10.
Battle Creek took an early lead as Rouric Bridgewater came around to score in the second inning. The Bullfrogs answered with a four run third inning that was capped by a Nick Torres three-run homer off Bombers starter Alex Tukey . Tukey left after just three innings on the mound. Green Bay got two more runs in the fourth thanks to a Jimmy Coady 2 RBI double. Battle Creek entered the top of the seventh inning 7-1, and then the offense woke up.
Battle Creek would go on to score nine runs thanks to trouble in the field from the Bullfrogs. Tyler Moore scored two runs and Mark Weist, Cam Gibson, Kade Scivicque, Rouric Bridgewater, Drew Carlile, Gabe Acevedo and Daniel Cucjen all scored. The Bombers took a 10-7 lead until it was erased on one swing in the bottom of the eighth inning. With a run already in, Torres hit his second homer of the game, this one a two-run shot to tie the game. Kellen Urbon (W 1-0) surrendered the two runs.
After a scoreless ninth by both teams, the game traveled into the tenth. With two on and two out in the tenth, Gibson hit a double to left to plate Acevedo and Cucjen giving the Bombers a 12-10 lead they would not lose. The two Bombers runs came off Bullfrog reliever Will Landsheft (L 1-1) . Gabe Berman (S 7) finished things in the tenth. Matt Esparza started for Green Bay going six and two-thirds and giving up just two earned runs while striking out five. The Bombers now travel to Eau Clair for two games.
