Brockton Rox News Release

(Brockton, Mass. - July 10, 2011) - The Brockton Rox (22-19) improved to a perfect 5-0 during their current homestand, clubbing the Pittsfield Colonials (23-18) 13-6 in the opener of a three game series on Sunday evening at Campanelli stadium.

The rematch between Freddy Flores (4-2) and Pat Moran (4-3) had little resemblance to the Colonial's 1-0 shutout victory over the Rox on July 4 in Pittsfield.

Flores took home this team high-tying fourth win for Brockton, lasting six and 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, while walking one and striking out two.

All three runs against Flores came in the third inning on an RBI single from Johnny Welch and a two-run double by Billy Mottram.

The heart of the order provided almost all of the Colonial firepower as Danny Bomback, Welch, Angel Molina and Mottram went a combined 9-for-16, while driving in and scoring five runs.

Moran labored through six frames in the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) on 13 hits, while striking out four and walking two.

Brockton's offense flowed from top to bottom as Mike Torres, Trey Hernandez, Jorge Jimenez, Chris Grossman and Dominic Ramos each had three base hits, while Ryan Royster, Chris Valencia and Keith Brachold each finished the game with two.

Hernandez led the way, knocking home a team high three runs, but was closely followed by Brachold, who crushed his tenth homer of the season, driving in two and also scoring three times.

The bottom of the Brockton order was also phenomenal as the six through nine hitters (Jimenez, Grossman, Royster and Ramos) went a collective11-for-19, amassing six RBIs and scoring seven runs.

Five of the 13 runs came in the seventh inning as the Rox sent eleven men to the plate and dropped a five spot on Rafael Lluberes in just 2/3 of an inning. Lluberes entered the night having allowed just one run in his previous 13 frames.

The 22 hits are a home record for Brockton and fall just two shy of the Rox all time mark of 24 hits, which took place on the road against Nashua in July of 2006.

The fifth consecutive victory marks a season best for the Rox as they look to add to the tally in game two Monday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with Julian Sampson (3-2, 3.02) set to face MacKenzie King (1-1, 4.11) as Brockton now trails Pittsfield by a single game in the Can-Am League standings.
