Tornadoes Split Doubleheader with Boulders, Winning 12-4 and Losing 3-2

The Tornadoes clobbered the Rockland Boulders in game one of Saturday night's doubleheader, winning 12-4. In the second game though, the Boulders walked off with a 3-2 victory. In game one, Worcester got homeruns in each of the first three innings. Abraham Nunez hit a two-run shot in the first, Ryan Crespi plated three in the second and Nick Salotti hit his tenth homer of the season in the third. In four of the games first five innings, the first two Tornadoes batters reached, scoring later in the frame. Zach Zuercher got his sixth win of the season (6-3) in game one, pitching 6.2 innings. Of the four runs he allowed (three earned), three of them came in the game's final inning, with Worcester leading 12-1. Mike Gedman came on for the last out of the game, retiring Ryde Rodriguez on a groundout. The Boulders scored immediately in game two, as the first two batters reached base. Sean Smith hit a leadoff triple against Ryan Bicondoa, then Vic Buttler singled him home. Neither team scored again until the top of the sixth inning, When Mark Minicozzi hit a two-run homer to give the Tornadoes their only lead of the game. In the bottom of the seventh, Suffern, NY native Ryan Mollica hit a solo homer to tie the game, and the Boulders won it three innings later against Nick Serino (1-5). Scott Clement hit a walk-off single, plating Ray Stokes to win the game. Ryan Bicondoa went seven innings in the no-decision, striking out eight, walking one and allowing two runs (both earned) on six hits. Alex Nunez extended his hitting streak to 24 games, waiting until his last at-bat in game two to single. In game one, he reached with an infield single on an 0-2 count in the first inning. The Tornadoes kick off a three-game series with the New Jersey Jackals on Sunday, with a 4:05pm first pitch. Shawn Gilblair will be on the mound for Worcester.
