Worcester Tornadoes News Release

The Quebec Capitales scored six times in the third inning off of Conner Hulse and beat the Worcester Tornadoes 8-6 on Saturday night at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. The Tornadoes scored five runs over the following five innings, but the rally sputtered out after the seventh in the middle game of the series.

Quebec sent ten men to the plate in an inning for the second game in a row, with Josh Garton both beginning and finishing the third at the plate. He, Patrick D'Aoust, Jonathan Malo, Sebastien Boucher, Josue Peley and Steve Brown all scored before the inning closed, with five of the six runs scoring after the second out was recorded.

Jeff Helps hit into a double play with the bases loaded to knock the first Capitales run in and tie the game at 1-1. Malo hit a two-run homer, Peley had a run-scoring single, and Rony Rodriguez added a pair of RBI on a double to provide the runs that inning.

Tony Patane's RBI ground out scored Chris Torres to pull the Tornadoes within four at 6-2 in the fourth. Jim Best notched his second RBI of the game on the first of two singles for the designated hitter, scoring Cam Kneeland. (Best also sent Torres home in the second inning on a ground out that gave Worcester a brief lead.)

The only run charged to Hulse that didn't come in the third was a Boucher homer to lead off the fifth and give the Capitales a 7-3 advantage.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Tornadoes chased Quebec starter Bryan Rembisz from the game. Rembisz allowed three runs before he was pulled on seven Tornadoes hits and two walks. He struck out two in his 5.2 innings of work, and gave up one run after he left, with Tony Davis giving up a Jerod Edmondson single that made it 7-4.

In his two-thirds of an inning, Davis allowed a run of his own, which scored on Chris Cox's watch. Cox also gave up a run, with a Cam Kneeland double allowing he inherited runner (from Davis) to score, and a Cam Monger single doing the deed for the sixth and final Worcester run.

Jerod Edmondson was hit by a pitch to start the eighth. He stole second and tried to score from there on a bloop single by Ryan Brockett. Brown's throw from right field beat Edmondson to the plate, but the Tornadoes' center fielder appeared to beat the tag. He was ruled out, and the 7-6 Capitales lead was preserved. Roque Mercedes ended the Tornadoes' threat with a pair of swinging strikeouts.

In the next half inning, a Quebec run scored in between a pair of swinging K's for Sean Keeler. He threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded. Helps scored on the play with Peley making his way back to the dugout. Brown struck out and Rodriguez popped out to end the top of the ninth.

T.J. Stanton came off of the disabled list just before the game and registered his 16th save, allowing a lead-off hit to Torres-who finished the game 3-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored-but he induced a 3-6 double play to the next batter, Kneeland. Monger struck out swinging to clinch the series win for Quebec.

The Tornadoes will look to avoid the sweep in Sunday afternoon's contest, the final Tykes Club Sunday of 2012. The gates open at 3:00pm, with the first pitch scheduled for 4:05. Tornadoes Pre-Game Live on USTREAM.tv begins at 3:50.
