August 25, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Newark 2, Lincoln 1
The Bears put two runs on the board in the second inning, and that was all starting Newark pitcher Omar Javier would need. Javier struck out eight Lincoln batters in seven shutout innings while allowing just three hits to lead Newark to a 2-1 victory. Bears 3B Juan Martinez singled in Newark's first run in the second inning, one of his two hits on the night. The Saltdogs put the tying run in scoring position in the eighth inning when David Espinosa followed his RBI single with a stolen base. But then Bears reliever Anthony Pluta struck out CF Mike Provencher to end the threat.
Quebec 8, Worcester 6
The Capitales scored five of their six third-inning runs with two outs, two coming on a 2B Jonathan Malo home run. After the inning, Quebec led, 6-1, and never trailed again en route to an 8-6 victory. Two-hole hitting Malo went 2-for-4 on the night, joining his teammates in the top third of the lineup as the only Capitales with more than one hit. Worcester fought back hard and put the tying run on second in the ninth inning with just one out. The next two Worcester batters, however, couldn't push in the two men in scoring position, as the Tornadoes fell to the Capitales. Worcester C Chris Torres scored three runs while tallying a game-high three hits in four at-bats.
New Jersey 2, Rockland 1
Starting New Jersey pitcher Mike Ness struck out six Rockland batters and allowed one run on just three hits in seven innings of work, helping his Jackals score a 2-1 victory over Rockland. New Jersey put both of its runs on the board in the third inning and led from that point on. Jackals SS Angel Berroa drove in the first New Jersey run and scored the second, going 2-for-4 on the night. Boulders 1B Ryan Scoma hit a solo homer in the next inning to cut the New Jersey lead in half. But that was all the damage the Rockland lineup was able to do against New Jersey pitching on the night.
