Worcester Tornadoes News Release
The Worcester Tornadoes had five hitters with at least two base knocks, but the Quebec Capitales' three home runs were the difference in a 6-4 win for the visitors on Sunday afternoon.
Jerod Edmondson, Ryan Brockett, Brendon Kelliher, Chris Torres and Cameron Monger each had a pair of hits, with each of them scoring or knocking a run.
The Tornadoes erased two Capitales advantages, starting in the first inning. After a Rene Leveret single in the top half to score Jeff Helps, Kelliher sent Edmondson home with an infield single. The Worcester center fielder had doubled to lead off the frame and stole third.
The first four-base hit for Quebec came in the top of the second inning, as Helps launched a three-run homer over the right field fence to give the Capitales a 4-1 lead.
Worcester added a couple of runs in the bottom half of the frame when Monger and Edmondson notched RBI singles back-to-back. Torres and Cam Kneeland came around to score and cut the deficit to one run.
The first of Brockett's two infield hits was a suicide squeeze in the fourth that plated Tony Patane (who doubled to lead the inning off) and tie the game at 4-4. Just half an inning later though, Rene Leveret gave the visiting team the lead for good.
Leveret's blast in his return to the lineup gave the Capitales a 5-4 advantage, which was extended to two runs with another solo blast two innings later by Jonathan Malo (his second of the series).
In each of the first six innings, Worcester put the lead-off batter on base and had the tying run on at some point during the frame. That included leaving the bases loaded in both the fifth and sixth innings. Rony Rodriguez's diving catch stopped the Tornadoes' rally in its tracks in the fifth, as Patane was robbed of a second extra-base hit.
Dan Sausville was handed the loss by his former team, pitching seven innings and allowing all of the Capitales' six runs. He struck four Quebec batters out, walked two, hit two, and allowed six hits.
Dustin Crenshaw earned his second victory in as many starts (and appearances) in his Can-Am League career. The righty threw the first five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits with two walks and a handful of strikeouts. The first three of his K's (all swinging) came in the second, when he allowed a pair of runs.
Matt McDonald and Nick Serino each pitched a scoreless inning for Worcester, with Serino picking up his team-leading 51st strikeout and inducing a double play to end the frame.
T.J. Stanton got his second save in as many games and his 17th of the season with a perfect ninth inning. Guillaume Leduc (two innings) and Guillaume Duguay (one inning) blanked the Tornadoes in their respective outings, with Leduc making an appearance in each game of the series. (In the middle game, he pinch-hit and struck out.)
The Tornadoes continue their final homestand of the 2012 season with a doubleheader on Monday, beginning at 5:05. The Rockland Boulders will be in town for the four-game series that ends Wednesday night. The gates open at 4:00pm, and audio coverage starts at 4:50pm on USTREAM.tv with Tornadoes Pre-Game Live.
