New Jersey Jackals News Release

The Jackals handed the Boulders their 13th straight loss Sunday. Their 8-1 win finishes the season-series at 13-8 in favor of the Jackals.

New Jersey put up five runs in the seventh thanks to three record-breaking home runs.

In a tune up game before the playoffs, the Jackals got a great effort from righty Steve Fox. Fox threw under 90 pitches in his seven innings of work, issuing just a solo home run to Phillip Cuadrado in the sixth inning. He allowed four hits and struck out four to earn the win. He improves to 12-3.

Gustavo Chacin gave his team a quality start. The lefty threw six innings and gave up three runs, all coming on two-out hits. Regardless, he gets the loss and drops to 3-5.

With a 1-0 lead in the second, Francisco Caraballo delivered a double off the left-center field wall to score Angel Berroa and Bryan Sabatella. Caraballo ended the day 2-5 with the two RBIs and a run scored.

Eric Federico entered the seventh inning and gave up a solo home run to Jeff Lanning, a solo home run to Angel Berroa, and a three-run home run to Nick Giarraputo in two-thirds of an inning.

On August 9th, the Jackals scored nine runs in two-thirds of an inning off Federico in their 10-run ninth inning, a game they would ultimately win 14-3.

New Jersey has hit 103 home runs this season, eclipsing the previous high of 102 last accomplished by the Worcester Tornadoes in 2008. That team that featured current Jackals Francisco Caraballo and Nick Salotti, the two players who still hold the team's single-season home run record of 23.

Edgard Clemente was 3-4 today, his second three-hit game for New Jersey in his two weeks here.

Jake Wiley and Jimmer Kennedy threw scoreless eighth and ninth innings. New Jersey's bullpen has thrown to a 1.08 ERA in exactly 50 innings this month.

With the win, the Jackals improve to 56-38, sticking 5 1/2 games back of the Capitales. Quebec's magic number to clinch home field advantage is one with six games to play.

The Boulders drop to 43-50.

New Jersey will have the day off tomorrow before starting a three-game set at home against Newark. Joe Calfapietra will send out Dustin Birosak (3-5, 5.64). The pregame show starts 6:55 with first pitch scheduled for 7:05.

The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
