New York Boulders News Release
(Ramapo, N.Y. August 26) - Nick Giarraputo had two hits, including a home run, and three RBI and Steve Fox allowed only one earned run over seven innings as the New Jersey Jackals beat the Rockland Boulders 8-1 to complete the sweep Sunday evening at Provident Bank Park. Rockland has now lost 13 consecutive games.
Nick Salotti's second inning RBI single started the scoring as New Jersey took a 1-0 lead. The Jackals added two more in the third on a two-run double by Francisco Caraballo. Rockland's lone run came in the bottom of the sixth on a Phil Cuadrado solo home run, which cut the deficit to 3-1.
Gustavo Chacin (3-5) took the loss for the Boulders, giving up three earned runs on seven hits and one walk, while striking out four, over six innings. Eric Federico came on in relief of Chacin and New Jersey blew open the game against the Boulders' bullpen. The Jackals hit three homers against Federico in the seventh, including a three-run blast off the bat of Giarraputo, which made the score 8-1.
Keith Brachold went 0-3 with a walk and remains four homers shy of Eddie Lantigua's single season home run record of 31, which was set back in 2005. Brachold needs five homers in seven games to break the mark.
Rockland looks to snap its losing streak Monday at 5 p.m. at Worcester as part of a double-header. The Boulders return home next weekend, September 1-3 as Rockland finished the season against the Lincoln Saltdogs.
