Rockland's Eighth Inning Rally Halts Tornadoes 7-4

The Rockland Boulders topped the Worcester Tornadoes 7-4 in the final home game of 2012 for the Central Mass. team. Pat Moran tossed eighth effective innings, and Adrian Martin notched his third save in as many days.
Worcester scored a pair of runs in the first on three straight singles, then a pair of potential double play balls that Mike Gedman and Chris Torres beat out to push runs home.Both Jerod Edmondson and Brendon Kelliher came in to give the Tornadoes a 2-1 lead after a first-inning run on a couple of bloop singles for Rockland.
The Tornadoes added two more runs to take a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning. Kelliher and Gedman each came in to score, with Worcester's first baseman notching a delayed steal of home to do so. With a 2-2 count, Cam Kneeland (who had been hit by a pitch) dashed for second base. Boulders starting pitcher Pat Moran threw to second base while Kneeland changed direction. Kneeland beat the throw to first, and Gedman came in to score on the play.
Moran got his fifth win of the season with two strikeouts, two walks, and four runs allowed on five hits.
Walker McKinven didn't receive a decision in the start for Worcester, pitching 6.2 innings. He allowed four runs as well, on eight hits and two walks, striking out one Rockland hitter. He left the game after back-to-back doubles tied the game at four.
Mike Mullen retired the only batter he faced in the seventh inning, but was tagged with the loss. All four batters he faced in the eighth reached, and three of them scored. Matt McDonald retired the only six batters her faced, but the first went down with a suicide squeeze to score the final run of the game.
The next Tornadoes game is on Saturday night at 6:35 at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Worcester will wrap its season up with three games against the New Jersey foes, with the 2012 season ending on Labor Day.
