Can-Am League Game Recap

July 10, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Worcester 7, New Jersey 6

In a back-and-forth game, the Worcester Tornadoes edged the New Jersey Jackals 7-6. The New Jersey loss means the Quebec Capitales win the first half championship in the Can-Am League. After three innings played, Worcester led 4-2, due in part to DH Nick Salotti's two-RBI double in the bottom of the third. New Jersey took the lead with a four-run fifth inning. Jackals LF Jordan Newton and C Chris Anderson each hit solo home runs in the inning, and RF Myron Leslie hit a two-RBI single to cap off the four-run fifth and give New Jersey a 6-4 lead. In the bottom half of the fifth, Worcester 1B Chris Colabello hit his eighth home run of the season to cut New Jersey's lead to one run. Tornadoes 2B Abraham Nunez and 3B Mark Minicozzi each drew a walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth to reclaim a 7-6 lead for Worcester. In the ninth, Tornadoes reliever Rick Asadoorian worked a scoreless ninth to earn the save. Worcester reliever Nick Serino was credited with the win. Minicozzi, Salotti and CF Cameron Monger all had two hits for Worcester in the game.
